A Preliminary Assessment of Wet Deposition and Episodic Transport of Total and Methyl Metcury from Low Order Blue Ridge Watersheds, S.e. U.s.a

چکیده
Results from a preliminary sampling program designed to investigate total (THg) and methyl Hg (MeHg) deposition, cycling and transport at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory western North Carolina are presented. Wet deposition samples were collected in June and July 1994 and throughfall, seep and streamwaters were intensively collected during and after a rainfall event in June 1994. All water samples were collected using ultra clean trace sampling protocol. Low elevation Watershed 18 streamwater THg concentrations peaked with discharge, increasing 6 fold to 9 ng L-’ . High elevation Watershed 27 which received less than one half the precipitation Watershed 18 received during the event, exhibited THg concentrations only 1.3 times over base flow conditions. Methyl Hg concentrations remained near detection limits (5 0.025 ng L-‘) in both streams. Dissolved MeHg concentrations were higher in shallow seep (0.097 ng L-l), throughfall (0.135 ng L-l) and precipitation (0.16 0.035 ng L‘) than streamwaters. Initial estimates of annual THg and MeHg deposition and transport indicate >90% retention of THg and a >SO% retention or demethylation of wet deposition MeHg is occurring in these low order watersheds,

Study of relationship between spatial variation of sediment yield and disrtribution of landform components (Case study: Qarasu watershed)
Extended abstract 1- Introduction Erosion and sedimentation in watersheds has caused many problems in healthy and sustainable use of water and soil resources, and is considered as one of the major threats to global economic and environmental sustainability. The increase of sediment yield in watersheds has consequences such as dam filling, river diversion, conductivity capacity reduction of wa...
متن کاملThe assessment of Acid concentration and Wet deposition in Spring and Autumn Rainfalls in Mashhad
Acid rain has been a big problem for urban area during recent decades. Acid rain comes from high concentration of air pollutant, including man made or artificial and natural, in the atmosphere. Mashhad, as the biggest religious town in Iran, has also been imposed with this problem. In this investigation the samples of rains during autumn 2002 and spring 2003 are analyzed. The results showed tha...
متن کاملEstimating direct and episodic atmospheric nitrogen deposition to a coastal waterbody.
Direct deposition of atmospheric nitrogen to shallow coastal embayments is usually estimated, since insufficient field measurements are available. Using Waquoit Bay (Cape Cod, MA. USA) as a case study, and a recent review of literature, we determined reasonable bounds on wet and dry inputs of inorganic and organic N. Since precipitation and wind vary daily, we explored the potential of episodic...

The effective patterns and mechanisms of synoptic systems during the wet and dry spells in Midwest of Iran(MWI) analyzed and discussed on seasonal scales from 1974 to 2003. Synoptic Analysis is based on synoptic chartson Sea Level Pressure (SLP), 850 and 500 Hpa levels. The results of synoptic analysis show that dry spells in MWIare mostly corresponded to Azores High (AZH) intensifying and its ...
